Today, one of the changes that modern life is associated with is the change in lifestyle, and nutrition is one of the pillars of lifestyle. The contemporary human lifestyle, in today's globalized situation, is strongly affected by the dislocated space.
Globalization, as one of the most important contemporary processes, has had a wide impact on various dimensions of life and social relations. With the intensification of the globalization process, cultural boundaries have gradually disappeared and intercultural interactions have increased.
Cinema is known as an art-media of cultural exchange and dissemination of ideas, and the intersection of cinema and food is one of the areas that can show how visual media play a role in the globalization of food production and consumption methods.
By intensification of the process of globalization, food has been recognized as an important cultural work that has crossed borders, and cinema has been effective in visualizing this issue. The representation of food in films often reflects broad social, economic, and cultural trends that can be a framework for the study of globalization.
The globalization of cinema has also helped to expand food cultures, and with the emergence of international film festivals and transnational film productions, culinary traditions from different places have reached diverse audiences. Also, by showing food, movies romanticize and commodify it for a global audience.
This article reviews the literature on lifestyle and globalization. It also reviews the way food, specifically Pasta, is represented as a cultural element in movies.
To understand how movies represent this food, non-Iranian and Iranian food-oriented films were reviewed, and then among them six movies which had the most affinity to the research issue; were selected and analyzed according to Fisk's semiotic analysis method.
The selected films were divided into two categories: 1."Eat, Worship, Love" and "Big Night" as food-centered films where pasta is their main dish and 2. foreign films "Chef" (American version), "Chef" (Indian version) and "Burnt" and domestic films "Spaghetti in 8 minutes", "Lasagna" and "Pastarioni", as food-oriented films in which Pasta was in margin, were analyzed.
The way of representing food as a whole was based on the trend of global consumption and McDonaldization, and the three ideological themes of "enjoyment", "simplification" and "Americanization" have been represented by the movies, especially in the first category.
Globalization has had profound effects on food and eating habits in different societies and has also brought challenges. One of these challenges is the threat of losing local food diversity. With the arrival of international cuisine and fast food culture, local foods may be gradually removed from daily life and replaced by standardized and global foods. This can lead to the loss of local food traditions and knowledge that form an important part of a society's cultural identity.
