The present study aims to explain urban household expenditure patterns in Tehran Province across two domains—intellectual–religious and beauty—and to examine the role of related socio-demographic and economic factors. The present study employs a quantitative approach based on secondary data analysis. The data were obtained from the Household Income and Expenditure Survey conducted by the Statistical Center of Iran in 2023 (1402 in the Iranian calendar), based on a sample of 1,351 urban households in Tehran Province. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the simultaneous-entry method. The findings showed that, in the intellectual–religious expenditure domain, the household head’s age, gender, marital status, and educational attainment, along with household income and Internet access, were significantly associated with intellectual–religious expenditure. By contrast, in the beauty expenditure domain, age, employment status, household income, the number of women aged 15–49 years, and access to the Internet and a personal computer were significantly associated with beauty expenditure. A comparison of the two models showed that, although income, age, and Internet access were significant predictors in both domains, the other significant variables differed between the two domains. Furthermore, the set of variables included in the beauty expenditure model had greater explanatory power than those included in the intellectual–religious expenditure model. Overall, the findings support the existence of two distinct expenditure patterns in the intellectual–religious and beauty domains, each associated with a different combination of economic, socio-demographic, and technology-access factors.
